New budget eliminates sports teams in Clarkstown
(07/23/10) WEST NYACK - Budget cuts in the Clarkstown Central School District have resulted in the reduction of sports teams.
Sports like tennis, football and baseball will only have one team, as opposed to the traditional two. The result, many say, will be an increase in competition and fewer spots on the team.
Students like Alyson Bowman, who plays on the Felix Festa Middle School tennis team, say they don?t like the changes.
"This year seventh grade was my first year and I like it so I wanted to do it again, but I heard there was going to be cuts and everything so I was not happy," Bowman said.
School Board President Philip DeGaetano said the cuts were necessary and that he'd "rather have a teacher in the classroom than sports."
