New cellphone video shows fight erupting at Mahopac vs. Mount Vernon basketball game

So far, no charges have been filed in the incident. (3/8/14)

MOUNT VERNON - New video appears to show Mount Vernon fans egging on Mahopac fans in the stands during the closing seconds of last week's high school basketball game that was followed by chaos and racist tweets.

A Mahopac parent who asked News 12 to not show his face or identity claims he was the victim in a fight captured on cellphone video. The parent says a middle-aged Mount Vernon grandfather started using vulgarities toward him after Mahopac lost the game.

"He was cursing in my ear," said the father. "I asked him not to yell in my face and then he proceeded to take a swing at me and punched my wife's friend in the shoulder and grazed me in the cheek."

Hugh Rennells was in the crowd during the incident, but says he didn't see who started the fight. Rennells told News 12 the Mount Vernon grandfather was the one in danger, and was allegedly punched by a younger aggressor.

The Mahopac parent says the fight had nothing to do with race. So far, no charges have been filed in the incident.
