A New City pharmacy received 200 doses from the state on Jan. 27 to administer to anyone 65 years old and up.

Due to the high demand for coronavirus vaccinations, the slots at the local pharmacy were filled rapidly.

News 12 is told the drug store has received an influx of calls for appointments due to word of mouth. 

The state’s website for appointments didn’t have the pharmacy listed, but word still spread quickly.

The New City pharmacy waitlist for the vaccine currently has 3,000 people listed and has since closed.

“We are trying to go through people as fast as we can and accommodate as many people as we possibly can,” says supervising pharmacist Nora Levine.

The state directs county health departments to vaccinate essential workers and physicians, while pharmacies are designated to vaccinate seniors.

Town Supervisor George Hoehmann is familiar with the increase in calls, saying in part, “No lie, 10,000 a week in calls, emails. It’s constant, people are scared, they want the vaccine, there's not enough of them."

The pharmacy is seeking volunteers to help with everything from administering vaccines to assisting patients with registration forms.
