New City residents shocked by man's murder allegations
Former New City neighbors of a man who allegedly stabbed a security guard to death at an Ulster County rehabilitation center say they are stunned by the accusations.
"I'm shocked, right in your own neighborhood, it's pretty scary," says Tom Downs about the murder allegedly committed by 24-year-old Richard Giga, who was raised on Birch Lane.
Ulster County authorities say Giga was on the run yesterday for 16 hours after fatally stabbing the security guard and then forcing a nurse to drive him from the scene, later stabbing her in the stomach and chest.
Gaga was finally found at a vacant home on Ulster Heights Road.
