The new Orange County emergency services center officially opened for business Thursday.
?This is more than bricks and mortar,? says Orange County Executive Ed Diana. ?It represents hope in the darkness of night, refuge during violent storms and floods; safety during times of crises.?
It has taken the county four years to plan and construct the state-of-the-art building that was unveiled on Wells Farm Road in Goshen in a grand opening ceremony.
?We don't have 911 in Chester anymore,? says Deputy Commissioner of Fire Services John Horan. ?Everything is here, all in one spot.?
One of the most impressive parts of the new building is the 911 dispatching center, which features a county-wide monitoring station that shows a list of live calls, maps and video in real time.
?Our residents need to be safe and secure and know that when emergencies strike, we'll be there to answer those calls,? Diana says.
Officials say although the new technology cannot prevent a disaster, both the space and the sophisticated equipment will help first responders in their work.
