Local businesses in New Rochelle say they've been rolling with the punches since the coronavirus outbreak, and now they are preparing for an even bigger hit.
H & R Bialys is a deli that's been in business for nearly 50 years, and it is one of many businesses in the 1-mile containment zone.
Owner Michael Mariano says business has depleted by about 30% in just the past five days.
"Just gonna go with the flow; I'm just hoping nobody here comes down with it because then I'm just gonna close up," says Mariano.
Sal's Pizza, another local restaurant, has seen a 40% decline in foot traffic.
"It's been very, very, very, very quiet. I don't know what to do anymore; it makes me feel bad, I'm very depressed here," says Salvotore Imburgia, Sal's Pizza owner.
If business continues this way, Imburgia says he may have to resort to closing up shop for a couple of weeks.
Even a few miles outside of the containment zone, restaurants like Dubrovnik are taking a hit. They've lost about 70% of business since last week, and now they're closing for the day to clean the place inside out.
"We want to show people that we are ready and taking care of what we have to take care of to make sure that they are secure," says Dubrovnik owner Zeljko Tomic.
Mayor Noam Bramson says New Rochelle doesn't have the resources to help small businesses, but they're looking at other options.
"I know that New York City is looking at measures that may be helpful, and it is among many, many, items that I know will be discussing with county and state authorities as we move forward," says Bramson.
Northwell Health will set up a mobile testing site in New Rochelle to get more people tested and results back faster.
