A man from New Rochelle screened his first film about his father, who took his own life.
John Palomino debuted "Man of the House" at the Pelham Picture House Saturday. He wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film.
Filmed locally, the movie tells the story of what happened to Palomino's father 24 years ago - but from the filmmaker's perspective.
Palamino plays his father, who was a New Rochelle firefighter.
Attendees at the debut wore purple ribbons for suicide awareness prevention. Advocates say the ribbons and the movie are just some of the ways to get a difficult conversation started.
Palamino says he wants his film shown in prevention organizations and schools.
"I just want to help people," he says.
