Tenants in New Rochelle are speaking out about problems in their apartment building that they say their landlord refuses to fix.
Residents of the Church Street complex say they have been living without heat, hot water and gas since Wednesday.
"They're basic essentials--we should have them," says Alexandra Cardenas, a tenant of the building.
Cardenas says tenants were told by Con Edison that their landlord must fix the problem, but she says the building's owner, Susan Friedman, refuses to do so. She even alleges that the landlord has threatened, cursed and screamed at her and her mother.
News 12 reached out to Friedman, who blamed Con Edison for last week's gas leak and denied tenant allegations that she refuses to make necessary repairs.
"My response is that they're lying," Friedman said. "Lying."
There are 25 apartments in the complex and News 12 is told that more families living there are afraid to speak out.
News 12 reached out to Con Edison and a spokesperson there says the reason the building has no gas is because the landlord has not made the necessary repairs.
