Newborn left on Jefferson Valley doorstep in stable condition
An abandoned newborn found outside a Jefferson Valley home is in stable condition at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt. The baby boy was only a few hours old when a Yorktown man found him on the doorstep of 423 East Main Street Saturday night. Yorktown police say the baby was found in a basinet, partially clothed and covered in a blanket. Because of the frigid temperatures, the officers were required to provide emergency medical care. Police are conducting a criminal investigation to find the child?s mother and say whoever left the baby could be prosecuted for abandonment. In New York State, Safe Haven laws allow a parent to anonymously surrender a newborn up to 5 days old.
