The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that a tornado touched down in Newburgh Monday, leaving a path of damage.

According to the agency, the funnel touched down three times along a mile-and-a-half-long and 100-yard-wide path.

The owner of Rick's Automotive was outside his shop when the storm ripped down part of a cinder block wall. "When you see roofs flying and fences going and the back wall fall off a building, you hold on to whatever you can find," said Rick Mitchetti. "I thought I was going with the storm."

A massive tree was also uprooted at another location, leaving a gaping crater in the ground.

The Orange County Division of Emergency Management took photos of the damage for the National Weather Service, which later confirmed what witnesses described as a tornado.
