John Goff hails from upper Manhattan. He holds a BA in History and an MA in Journalism from the University of Wyoming.
Over the years, he has covered several presidents, national party conventions and elections, the visit of Pope John Paul II to New York in 1995, as well as natural and man-made disasters.
John began his broadcasting career at KUWR-FM in Laramie, Wyoming. He also worked for Cheyenne radio stations KVWO and KFBC prior to joining the staff of what was then KYCU-TV (now known as KGWN-TV channel 5) the CBS affiliate in Cheyenne Wyoming. At KYCU, he was the staff meteorologist, anchor and reporter.
John then spent almost 10 years with TV stations in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
He returned to his roots in 1990 when he joined what was then Cablevision News, in Yonkers, a predecessor to News 12 Westchester.
Over the years, John has received several awards for his reporting, including a commendation from the Wisconsin Bar Association for a series on that state’s juvenile justice system.
He was also part of the News 12 team recognized by the New York Press Club for coverage of severe storms which hit Yonkers, in July 2009. That coverage was also nominated for a New York Emmy Award.
John and his family now live in Putnam County. His favorite non-work activity, other than his family, is photography and the study of history, especially the American West.
