POMONA - At least four people are homeless after their Pomona home went up in flames.

The fire broke out in the kitchen of a home located on Route 45.

"We were familiar with this address because we had filed complaints to the town of Ramapo because it was originally built as a one-story home and it has been converted to a multiple dwelling," says the Pomona fire chief.

Officials claim multiple families live there, and the basement is laid out as a second kitchen.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The owners have told News 12 that everything is up to code, but fire officials say they aren't convinced since the building has a history of violations.
