SPARROWBUSH - The search in Sparrowbush for an alleged rapist from Rockland is over.
Deerpark Supervisor Karl Brabenec says Norris Acosta-Sanchez, 35, was shot and killed by an unidentified neighbor when he returned to the area where he had been hiding out Friday morning.
Acosta-Sanchez was wanted by Ramapo police for rape and child endangerment charges stemming from an incident that reportedly involved an underage female acquaintance.

Police say Acosta-Sanchez had been camping in a makeshift shelter on the property of a cabin along Old Plank Road in Sparrowbush. When police arrived with a warrant Thursday, he took off.
Brabenec says Acosta-Sanchez returned to Sparrowbush Friday morning and was killed. Neighbors say that scenes like this are unusual in the normally quiet community.
Police searched the woods for evidence, took pictures, and kept the street blocked off for hours Friday. They say they are questioning a 42-year-old man and say the criminal investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have not revealed why Acosta-Sanchez was shot or if there will be any charges filed in the case.
