VALHALLA - After laying off 250 nurses last month, executives at Westchester Medical Center have announced another round of layoffs.

The medical center plans on cutting 150 Civil Service Employees Union memberssuch as social workers and mental health aides.

Administrators say they are trying to close a $60 million budget gap. Last month's layoffs of 250 nurses reportedly saved $30 million.

Most of the latest round of layoffs will happen as the hospital outsources the management of its Behavioral Health Center. Administrators hope to save $4 million a year by having Liberty Healthcare of Pennsylvania revamp the BHC. No nurses or physicians are expected to be affected by the reorganization. Liberty will employ 125 to 135 people and laid-off workers can apply for those jobs.

The whole restructuring project at the BHC is expected to take several weeks, so the layoffs won't be announced for some time.
