CROTON-ON-HUDSON - Police are investigating a deadly crash that took the life of an Army football player in Croton-on-Hudson this weekend.

U.S. Military Academy officials say Cadet Brandon T. Jackson, a member of the class of 2019, from Queens, New York, died as the result of a single-car accident Sunday.

Police tell News 12 the crash happened along Route 9 and Municipal Place early Sunday morning. They believe Jackson hit the guard rail and his car flipped over.

Jackson was a starting defensive back on the Army West Point football team. He had two solo tackles and one assist in Saturday’s game against Rice. “Words cannot describe the grief that our team is feeling over the loss of our brother and friend, Brandon," said head coach Jeff Monken. “He was a beloved teammate and our hearts are with his family at this time of tragedy.”

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.
