SUFFERN - Incumbent Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee defeated a political newcomer Tuesday in the race for the 97th Assembly District.

The Democrat won her sixth term representing the district in Albany.

Her challenger, Republican Joe Chabot, works for the Rockland County Board of Elections.

The 97th District covers the majority of the south side of Rockland County, from Piermont to Suffern.
