YONKERS - It's back to school today for many students across the Hudson Valley, and parents are feeling it in their pocketbooks.

Many parents spent more money this year on school supplies and other items for the new school year.

Overall sales were up two percent as Americans spent nearly $76 million.

Analysts say that's the best showing in five years.

Fortune.com says that some of the hot items include retro sneakers, "cold-shoulder" tops, versatile laptops and USB drives.
