Black ice coats Hudson Valley roads

FLORIDA - Unexpectedly heavy snowshowers made for hazardous driving conditions across the Hudson Valley Friday morning.

News 12 Meteorologist Brysen Van Eck says the snow bursts were especially heavy in southern Rockland, with accumulations in some spots near an inch. Van Eck says the snow moved away from the region and rising temperatures should help melt the ice.

DPW officials say that the black ice that formed Friday morning on many roadways, prompted sanders and salters to mobilize.

The start of the day was delayed for some schools in Orange County. Several schools, such as the Greenwood Lake School District, opened after a two-hour delay.
