Monroe officials said their water system did not have chlorine to kill bacteria because of a pump failure.

MIDDLETOWN - A boil water alert went into effect Wednesday in Orange County.

Monroe officials said their water system did not have chlorine to kill bacteria because of a pump failure.

Residents were advised to boil their water for at least two minutes before drinking it.

As of Wednesday night there was no word on when the problem would be fixed. People with questions can contact the Orange County Department of Health at (845) 291-2331.
