Brush fire tears through Vails Gate along Route 9W

The strong winds and dry conditions yesterday helped fuel the fire. (4/25/14)

VAILS GATE - Firefighters are continuing to monitor the area in Vails Gate after extinguishing a massive brush fire Friday morning.

The fire sparked yesterday and strong winds and dry conditions helped contribute to it as it burned along Route 9W. Hundreds of firefighters from as many as 30 departments worked overnight to help put out the flames.

Officials say while areas are still smoking, the fire is contained will not ignite again or spread to nearby homes.
