Bus carrying 16 NYC inmates flips over on I-87

RAMAPO - A bus transporting 16 NYC Department of Corrections inmates flipped over and crashed on I-87 this morning.

State police say the accident happened on the northbound side of I-87 between exits 14A and 14B around mile marker 25 in the vicinity of Saddle River Road.

Police say all of the prisoners were secured, and there was no attempt at escape.

Rockland paramedics say there were no life-threatening injuries, but the driver of the bus was trapped for a short time and suffered minor injures. All inmates and staff were escorted off the bus and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern for observation.

All 16 offenders involved in the accident have been returned to the state prison system, according to the New York City Department of Corrections.

State police say the crash was caused when the bus was cut off by another vehicle.
