PEARL RIVER - Crews in Pearl River are continuing cleanup efforts after an oil tanker overturned on Route 59 in Nanuet, dumping more than 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel onto the street.

The fuel that spilled in Nanuet found its way into storm drains that feed into the Nauraushaun Brook in Pearl River. United Water crews have installed booms in the brook to filter out the fuel, to prevent it from getting into the water supply.

United Water says the spill did not impact Rockland's water supply, but residents in Pearl River say they wish they could have been warned about the overwhelming gas fumes.

State DEC crews are also onhand to assist in the cleanup. United Water says it will continue to test the water supply.
