Cops try to decipher reports of Nanuet home invasion

NANUET - Clarkstown police are investigating reports of a home invasion and possible hostage situation in Nanuet this morning. Authorities say a man who attended a New Year's Eve party at 3 Albacon Road. called police to inform them that three armed men broke into the house and tied people up. Police surrounded the home and blocked off adjacent streets for several hours. They raided the home after failing to communicate with anyone inside, only to find the homeowner asleep in the basement. "It's too early to say if it was a hoax or if it happened," says Clarkstown Police Chief Mike Sullivan. Officials say they have taken a suspect into custody, and that they believe a robbery actually occurred.
