YONKERS - An Orange County woman is facing charges after crashing her car into a herd of cows last week.

Police say Daisy Cowit, 21, of Wawayanda, was on her cellphone when she hit the cows crossing County Route 35 in Mount Hope. They say she hit six cows, and came close to striking two farmhands.

Authorities say three of the cows suffered serious injuries, and had to undergo emergency surgery. They are still alive.

Cowit has been charged with two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, as well as fourth-degree criminal mischief among other misdemeanors. She was also issued traffic tickets for operating a motor vehicle while using a cellphone and failing to exercise due care.
