CHESTER - Five people, including a child, were sent to the emergency room after a deck collapsed during a Memorial Day weekend cookout in Chester.

The collapse happened just after 7 p.m. Sunday on Surrey Road. Officials say 20 people were on the deck when it detached and started sliding down the house.

There were no serious injuries among the adults, but two people sprained their ankles. The child was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries.
