ARDSLEY - Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and millions of drivers are hitting the road today to get to their holiday destination.

With gas prices low and cabin fever high, AAA says there will be more traffic than the nation has had in a decade. Approximately 37 million Americans are expected to hit the road in search of barbecues and summer fun.

In the Hudson Valley, prices for regular gas range from about $2.89 a gallon to a high of about $3.15. Experts say fill up now because those prices are expected to increase soon.

Drivers are also urged to take it slow and be alert. Memorial Day weekend is considered one of the most dangerous holidays to be on the roads because of drunken drivers.

The latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety records almost 400 deaths from car accidents over Memorial Day weekend, with 40 percent of those because of drunken drivers.
