SPRING VALLEY - An East Ramapo School Board member has called it quits after just two months on the job.

Newly elected board member Juan Pablo Ramirez told News 12 on Friday that he had a sudden change of heart when it came to the position.

"I want to focus on my ministry, focus on my family and I want to help the community in that way," he said.

Ramirez's resignation comes just weeks after he attended his first meeting as a representative for the large Latino population within the financially troubled district.

Community activist Steven White said the sudden resignation raises a few red flags, primarily questioning the motives behind the sudden departure. "Why would you run and then resignn" said White. "Is there an ulterior motivee"

News 12 reached out to the school board president for comment, but a woman inside the home said he was not there. In a statement, Yehuda Weismandl said the board is sorry to see Ramirez go.

The board is expected to meet next week to discuss a replacement.
