MONTGOMERY - Police have brought into custody an ex-politician from Orange County after he called them earlier, saying he'd kill himself in his own home. Officials say former Montgomery Councilman John Katonah, who lives on River Road, is now undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Westchester Medical Center.

Authorities say they received a call about a suicidal man who had cut himself with a knife. SWAT teams and police swarmed the road, shutting it down for hours.

Law enforcement officers surrounded a large barn on Katonah's property and called him out. Police say he came out the front door and surrendered. Katonah's current condition has not been released by authorities.

Katonah has reportedly had run-ins with the law before but police would not comment on that today. Katonah is also said to have run a Christian radio station.
