NEW CITY - Highway crews are turning their attention back to filling potholes now that the winter weather is slowly on its way out.

Mariane Brancatelli, of New City, says she has been driving cautiously the past few days to avoid the pesky craters; however, she cannot swerve around all of them, despite her best efforts.

Highway officials say that the ubiquitous presence of the potholes makes avoiding them difficult.

Rockland Highway Superintendent Skip Vazetti says that filling the potholes has become the No. 1 priority for his crews. He says that so many are popping up now is because the roads are starting to thaw following the winter freeze.

Officials say that drivers should immediately report any potholes they see.
