PORT JERVIS - A fire ravaged a multifamily building in Port Jervis on Tuesday morning, leaving more than a dozen people homeless.

Fire officials say the flames at 186 Pike St. sparked around 5 a.m., while five families were still asleep. They say the flames quickly spread to a vacant building next door.

Officials don't know what caused the fire, but investigators with arson dogs were on the scene.

The Red Cross is providing food and places to stay for the 14 people affected by the fire.
