Fire destroys much of Algonquin Plaza in Newburgh

NEWBURGH - A fast-moving fire ripped through a Newburgh strip mall this morning, destroying about half of the businesses there. Firefighters say they responded to the call at Algonquin Plaza on 190 South Plank Road at around 8:30 a.m.Police say rubble is all that remains of Monell's Camera Shop, a dry cleaning business, an insurance office, an Asian food store and the New York State 100th Assembly District offices formerly held by Thomas Kirwan.A firewall protected some of the businesses, including a small U.S. post office.No injuries were reported.
