KIRYAS JOEL - A fast-moving fire in Kiryas Joel tore through a multifamily home with a basement synagogue.

The fire left dozens homeless, including three families with children.

Officials say everyone inside got out safely, but News 12 saw at least one firefighter being treated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation.

Firefighters say it appears the fire began in the basement, where the neighborhood synagogue is.

It’s not clear yet what caused the fire.
