Former Monroe fire chief dies in crash

MONROE - A former fire chief in Monroe died in a car crash today. Police say William Brown, 69, was driving when he passed out behind the wheel at around 11a.m. They say the car crashed through a fence on Cromwell Road and plunged 130 feet down a ravine. Monroe Fire Chief George Linderman says Brown suffered some kind of medical attack, causing him to lose consciousness. An unidentified 25-year-old man, who was a passenger, managed to jump from the car before it crashed. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
