PEEKSKILL - A former Peekskill principal is using his love of boats and woodworking to help keep teenagers out of trouble.Jim Taylor, the former principal of Oakside Elementary School, builds boats from scratch with middle and high school students through his Boatworks program. Taylor and the teens began meeting last fall. They measure, sand and paint the boats, then send them off into the water."I found that this is very intriguing for them," Taylor says. "They learn mathematics and learn how to put things together, use power tools, hand tools."The Boatworks after-school program is starting up again in October.
