NEWBURGH - A second-grade teacher in Newburgh is New York State Teacher of the Year.

Dana McDonough teaches at Fostertown ETC Magnet School, where she has spent her entire career.

"You're almost setting up and unfolding a flower in a way, and they bloom while they're in your presence," she says of the age she teaches.

As teacher of the year, McDonough will represent New York state teachers at events around the state and around the nation.

"It's going to give me an opportunity to shine a light on Newburgh," she says. "The wonderful things that are happening here. And the wonderful job that teachers are doing in Newburgh."
