ORANGEBURG - An emergency freight train safety drill was held Thursday in Rockland County.

The drill in Orangeburg simulated an accident between a freight train and a car. First responders were assessed on how they reacted. The drill comes on the heels of Gov. Andrew Cuomo calling for greater measures to prevent and prepare for any crude oil incidents in New York state.

Officials say that they want to learn from disasters that happened in other places, like Canada.

"We saw it happen last year in Quebec, an accident resulted in a fire that left 47 people dead," says Rockland County Executive Ed Day. "That can happen here and we must prevent it from happening here, that is the purpose of today."
