WALLKILL - A propane tank explosion leveled an Orange County home Monday morning.

Emergency responders say the explosion destroyed the single-family bungalow at 10 Meadow Lake Drive in Wallkill around 6:30 a.m.

The two men who lived at the home were not there at the time of the blast.  According to officials, one man was staying at his girlfriend's house and the other resident was at work at the time of the explosion.

Officials say neighbors had called their propane company over the weekend after smelling gas, but the explosion happened about three hours before the gas company was scheduled to get there.

Firefighters advise residents that if they smell what appears to be a gas leak, they should immediately notify the gas company.

The propane company, Blue Flame of Middletown, declined to comment on the explosion.
