Goshen woman killed in LI plane crash

SHIRLEY - Officials say a Goshen woman has died following a Long Island plane crash earlier today.

Jane Unhjem, 60, of Goshen, was pronounced dead earlier tonight after being seriously burned in the crash. Unhjem's husband, 61, is listed in critical condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Unhjem worked as the assistant school superintendent for the Goshen School District.Town of Brookhaven officials say the single-engine plane took off from Long Island at around 11:48 a.m. and plummeted back to the ground in a ball of flames just moments later.

Officials say the pilot of the plane was pronounced dead on the scene.Officials say the plane was registered in Florida, but was being kept at the airport for the past month. Investigators are still unsure where the plane was headed or what went wrong before the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration is to conduct an investigation.
