NEWBURGH - An Orange County man is creating history with Habitat for Humanity as he will be moving into a home that provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to boost the economy.

Ignacio Acevedo had much to overcome when he moved to the United States in 1991. He was undocumented and says he never found it easy to call any place home.

Now with the help of Newburgh's Habitat for Humanity, Acevedo's hard work has started to pay off. The professional artist will move into the three-story home with his wife and family on Saturday.

Within five hours, nearly 50 Habitat volunteers helped put up the walls of the home and workspace below.

Habitat executive Cathy Collins says bringing back the tradition of living above a storefront is "a viable way to support the economic growth of the community."
