HAVERSTRAW - A historic Catholic church in Haverstraw will merge with another church this Saturday.

St. Mary's Church, which has been open for 117 years, will be merging with St. Peter's Church. The church is one of 50 churches the New York Archdiocese is either closing or merging with another parish.

Many St. Mary's Church parishioners say that they are sad to see the church go.

"I spent my whole life here," says parishioner Bill Kohut. "I raised six kids, four have been altar boys. My daughter sang in the choir and my parents lived up the street. We all put time here."

The Rev. Monsignor Robert McCabe, who has called St. Mary's Church home for 15 years, says that he loved every moment of it and that it will be hard to say goodbye.
