ROCKLAND COUNTY - Some of the most dangerous roads in New York are considered to be in the Hudson Valley.

Crushed cars, shattered windshields and scattered debris are seemingly all too familiar sights on many roads in Rockland.

Many drivers say conditions are the worst on Route 59 in Nanuet, along Route 45 in Spring Valley and on Route 202 in Haverstraw.

According to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, they're all considered among the worst for safety and have some of the highest crash rates in New York state.

Schumer says there are a dozen roads in the Hudson Valley with alarming crash rates, including four in Rockland.

"When you have heavy commuter populations, that doesn't mean we should shrug our shoulders and say that's just life," Schumer says.

Schumer is pushing for safety audits and for the government to help municipalities pay for road upgrades.
