YONKERS - Hundreds of people turned out on Thursday for the first day of wake services for a firefighter from Yonkers who was killed in an explosion in the Bronx.

Services to honor FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy were held at the Flower Funeral Home on Thursday and will continue on Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Annunciation Church in Yonkers.

As Fahy is mourned, the investigation into the explosion that caused his death continues. Police arrested Garivaldi Castillo, 32, Wednesday, and investigators say he could be connected to the explosion that killed Fahy. Also under arrest is Julio Salcedo, 34, who rented the house that police say may have been a marijuana grow house or some type of drug lab.

Fahy was at the house in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx Tuesday answering a call of a suspected gas leak. The house exploded, and the 44-year-old died after being hit by flying debris.

A 17-year veteran of the FDNY, Fahy was a Rockland County native who lived in the Crestwood section of Yonkers with his wife and three young children. "It's just a tragic loss for the community and right now our thoughts and prayers are with his family," says Don Pasca, of Yonkers.

It's been a very difficult week for all who knew him. "It's devastating when you go out the door and expect to come back. When one of your brothers doesn't come back, it affects everyone," says FDNY Battalion Commander Brian Fink.
