GOSHEN - Law enforcement officers in the Hudson Valley are on high alert following the recent killings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Deadly police-involved shootings nationwide have prompted a firestorm of fatal fury toward law enforcement, with eight officers killed in a span of days.

Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois says the massacres are a reminder to stay vigilant. She says the tension between the public and authority is a cultural and generational problem.

"We cannot lose," DuBois says. "If we lose, civilians get hurt and officers get killed."
