NEW CITY - The repeated snowfall is burying hydrants, creating fire hazards across the region.
It’s the responsibility of the homeowner or business closest to a hydrant to keep it clear of snow.
Anyone who neglects to clear a hydrant risks a modest fine, depending on local policy. But that penalty isn’t the only reason to get out and shovel the mounds away.
“It will really help the firefighters who are really helping you,” says Rockland fire coordinator Gorden Wren.
