SCARSDALE - It's the end of an era for a Scarsdale store that is closing after 50 years of business.

Scarsdale Candy'n Cards will shut its doors for the final time on Jan. 31.

Emily Hirsch and her husband opened the shop that sells greeting cards and other gifts in the mid-1960s.

Amazingly, Hirsh, who turns 100 in June, opened the store after she retired from her regular job. Now she says she is ready to retire again. "I'll miss the routine, but I'm sure I can do it."

Hirsch says the secret to her longevity is being kind and fair.
