GOSHEN - Jury selection began today in the murder trial of a convicted Orange County sex offender.

Michael Mele is accused of killing aspiring dancer Laura Garza in 2008. Police say Garza was last seen leaving the Marque nightclub in Manhattan in Dec. 2008. Her body was found months later in the woods of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Mele was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Mele has been listed as a sex offender since 2007 after he was found guilty of exposing himself and masturbating in front of women in the parking lot of the Palisades Center Mall.
