Local lawmakers take keen interest in Cuomo speech

YONKERS - With Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) vowing during his State of the State address to help local governments with their budget problems, local lawmakers say there are a number of pressing issues the governor should focus on.

Lawmakers who attended the governor's speech in Albany say mandate relief, which would allow local governments to cut certain services the state deems indispensable, must go hand-in-hand with the state-mandated 2-percent property tax cap.

Lawmakers also say allowing Las Vegas-style table gambling across the state could help revitalize the Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.
