NEWBURGH - A man is facing criminal charges after police say he stole candy from children in Newburgh.

Police say 34-year old Vincent Gaudio, 34, of Wallkill, dropped off a relative at football practice at Leptondale Elementary School, and then grabbed nearly 30 boxes of candy which were to be sold to help pay for a school trip. The candy, valued at $1,680, was being sold by the school’s music department to finance a field trip for the school’s band and chorus students.

Investigators say the act was caught on a surveillance camera

Gaudio is now in Orange County Jail, charged with grand larceny and criminal trespassing.
