NEW WINDSOR - An Orange County man will spend up to seven years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly disabled veteran.

Prosecutors say Dennis Mahoney, 68, of Walden, was posing as an employee of a veterans organization, when he promised to help the victim rent an apartment in Florida.

Instead, Mahoney stole more than $5,000 and moved the veteran into a hotel in New Windsor.

Mahoney also bilked the hotel out of over $2,000.
