MIDDLETOWN - The very snowy winter is making it hard for towns and cities to clean up, especially in Middletown, where the city has already used up its snow budget for the year.

Mayor Joseph Destefano says all the snow has depleted Middletown’s $200,000 budget for snow and ice control. City officials will appropriate an additional $200,000 for snow removal, which will come from the city's reserves.

Destefano says while it's not an investment, it's something necessary to fund because it's an issue of public safety.

The city's snow budget is supposed to last through December 2014.
